Jeff
Hicks and Mike Henke (the origins of "Double H") both hail from
the Midwest; Mike from Kansas City, Missouri, and Jeff from Kansas
City, Kansas (this area is the epicenter of the
nation's finest BBQ, an important point as you'll see later). They met in 1993 and became fast
friends.
In 2000 on a trip to Arizona, they chanced upon the property for sale
at 1475 South Hogan Lane. Upon walking around the property, they
immediately knew this would make a great bed and breakfast. However,
this was to be a slow process.
It wasn't until 2003 that Mike and Jeff finally were able to wrap up
their Midwest dealings and move to Arizona. Their first order of
business was to
purchase some property in Old Town Cottonwood, which they
refurbished and
opened as the Double H BBQ restaurant in February of 2004. They ran it
for two and a
half years while they readied their home to become what is proving to
be the finest bed and breakfast in Central Arizona.
Mike and Jeff sold their restaurant in 2007 and focused on final
preparations for the opening of their home as a bed and breakfast.
Their dream was about to become a reality.
In January of 2009, Double H Bed and Breakfast
officially opened its doors to guests.
After their popular BBQ resturant closed, local demand encouraged Mike
and Jeff to consider opening another food service business. As a
result, Mike now is the primary operator of the bed and breakfast and
Jeff manages the new Double H BBQ from an ultra modern food trailer
located in front of Home Depot in one of the most popular
shopping areas in Cottonwood.
So, not only do Double H Bed and Breakfast guests enjoy breakfast, but
they have the opportunity to sample Double H's popular mid-western
barbeque as well.
It doesn't get any better than this!
